He thanks Dickenson for his own letter and writes that he has no doubt that Dickenson and his family are enjoying London life, but he wishes that they could find time to visit him at Cheltenham as the air and the mineral water will benefit them. He continues that he himself has visited Abergavenny twice that summer for the benefit of his own health. Herries writes of Dickenson's father, whom, although now very old, will perhaps live longer than Sir Robert; although he has never suffered from gout, he still is never quite well.

Sir Robert continues his letter on the subject of politics and his hope that Bonaparte will soon be 'obliged to get out of the Peninsula, the best way he can'. He hopes for some good news from Lord Wellington.

Dated at Cheltenham.
"
