Letter from Harriet de Salis to Mary Hamilton. She has not had a moment to herself since her 'arrival at this place' and it is only Hamilton's request for a letter that has allowed her to find the time to do so. Salis arrived safely and joined her sister who she found 'tolerably well'. She writes that she has met many people she knows and all seem so glad to see her. Salis and her sisters have had many morning visitors since, and should have had many more but for the very poor weather. She has seen Mrs Garrick (HAM/1/6/6<\/a>), who enquired after Hamilton and says that 'she really is ill when she thinks of you' and that she is so 'ashamed of not having written to you' and that her 'conscious is quite disturbed ' because of it and pleads her excuses. Salis informed Mrs Garrick that there may be a chance that she would see Hamilton before the end of the month and she was much pleased. She also told her that she intended writing to her as soon as she had a moment and Salis promised 'to say all she bid'. Mrs Garrick also added 'that if that blackmoor her husband would have let her know in time that he was in town, she would willingly have come to town on purpose to see him'.
