   "value": "<p style='text-align: justify;'>This amputation set from the 1880s, includes knives, tourniquet and other instruments and equipment for surgical amputation. The case is engraved with the name of its owner \u2018George Tobin\u2019. It was made by J & W Wood of King Street, Manchester; originally cutlers, they specialised in surgical instruments between 1833-1933, and were known for the high quality of their products. By the 1880s, the safety of amputation had improved due to the use of anaesthetics and antisepsis.<\/p>"
