This is a personalised collection of novella on various passages and units of Talmud and their ongoing analysis and expansion in Rabbinic law over the subsequent centuries.<\/p>

Preliminary analysis indicates that the novella stem from three sets of sources: 1) insights culled from the range of earlier authoritative scholars; 2) what appear to be original insights by the compiler/scribe, who may be identical with the owner, Rabbi Ḥayyim Jacob Rashal; and 3) insights on the Passover laws, by a certain Morenu Ha-Rav Ts., son of our Master, Rabbi Zeʾev Wolf.<\/p>

Material from the three sources is interspersed throughout the manuscript. Materials from sources 1 and 2 are listed in a table of contents at the manuscripts end. There we are told that \u2018the novella of Morenu Ha-Rav Ts that are found in this codex were not listed in the table, because they are copied in the second codex\u2019. We thus learn that this is one of two volumes, the second of which is not part of the Rylands\u2019 Gaster Hebrew collection, and has not been identified.<\/p>

This manuscript is from the collection Hayyim Jacob ben Samuel Rashal Velizh. Of the 18 Hasidic manuscripts in the Rylands\u2019 Gaster Hebrew collection, at least eight \u2013 Gaster Hebrew MSS 1344<\/a>, 1346, 1347<\/a>, 1349<\/a>, 1350<\/a>, 1352<\/a>, 1354<\/a>, 1356<\/a> - are from Rashal\u2019s collection. All of these contain HaBaD (Chabad) Hasidic discourses except Gaster Hebrew MS 1356.
