These fragments of a papyrus roll of Deuteronomy were recovered by James Rendell Harris from two pieces of mummy cartonnage which, besides small scraps of Greek and Demotic documents, yielded the Homer (P. Ryl. 539), and some small unidentified literary texts (P. Ryl. 496 ,P. Ryl. 499, P. Ryl. 501-3); a strip of 539 had actually been wrapped round fragment b of 458.
