"value": "<p>With a Spencer accession number, so presumably from the library of George John, 2nd Earl Spencer (1758-1834). However, the verso of the broadside bears an ink inscription: From the Kloss Collection 4004, suggesting that it was purchased from the collection of Georg Franz Burkhard Kloss (1787-1854). Kloss's library was dispersed in 1835, after Spencer's death, suggesting that, if the inscription is correct, this was not acquired by Spencer. Lot 4004 in Kloss's sale was not this Bulla, but lot 1494 in the sale is listed as: 'Sixtus IV. P.M. Bulla pro constructione Ecclesize in Vrach (d. d. 1478, v. Id. Julii), 2 copies, fol. (Argent. Joh. Mentellinus, cum literis R 1478); with five other imperfect Documents (one in German) relating to the same Church, by different printers'. Despite the attribution to Mentelin, this lot must have contained two of the four known copies of the Urach Bull, so it seems possible that the Rylands copy came from Kloss.<\/p>"
