The title comes from a mounted cover label. Red writing indicates place names and cardinal directions. In the Edo or Tokugawa period (1603-1868), the Tsushima domain, where the Sō family acted as local lords (daimyō), played a leading role in managing Japan's diplomatic relations with Korea. This map lacks a date, but was probably created towards the end of the period. Kornicki (1993) places it in the 1850s or 1860s. <\/p>"
