   "value": "<p style='text-align: justify;'>The brutality of the Manchester Yeomanry was condemned across the country at meetings hosted by radical reformers. In Halifax, West Yorkshire, a large outdoor rally, followed by a radical dinner for 300 people, was held on the 4 October 1819. At the dinner Mr Crabtree spoke to the assembled audience about the monstrous conduct of the Manchester Yeomanry at St Peters Field. Addressing the Manchester Yeomanry personally, he asks whether their conscience is troubling them \u2013 \u2018despite receiving the thanks of persons high in station\u2019 (a veiled reference to the Home Secretary and Prince Regent whose praise for the Manchester authorities was well publicised). The speaker condemns their brutality, pronouncing them unfit for civilised society or indeed the love of a \u2018virtuous female\u2019. This is a condensed version of an address that was published in the Manchester Observer 9 Oct. 1819 <\/p>"
