Three women stand in a wooded area, two are dressed in breeches and jumpers, the other in a smock. Two are wearing slouch hats, which have badges in the centre front. Two of the women are working at a stone wheel sharpening and the third leans on a wooden prop with saws. The Women's Forestry Service was started by Miss Rosamund Crowdy as a section of the Land Army. It was set up under the Timber Supply Department, part of the Board of trade in 1917.
