Schwellenberg, Juliana Elisabeth

The Mary Hamilton Papers

Letter from Madame Schwellenberg [Juliana Elizabeth Schwellenberg, Keeper of the Robes to Queen Charlotte (c.1728-1797)] in which she refuses a present from Hamilton in case it gives 'a wrong impression'. She writes that she never accepts a 'Present of value' and that she requires no 'mementos' to remember Hamilton as her merit is to deep to be 'erased'. She ends the letter by asking for the pleasure of Hamilton's company and 'if my dear Miss Hamilton thinks me deserving a little drawing of your own'.

Original reference No. 17.
