The Mary Hamilton Papers

Letter from Francis Napier, 8th Lord Napier, to Mary Hamilton, relating to King George III and Napier's family. Napier writes that King George III is beloved by his subjects and there is a ‘visible gloom & dejection whenever his melancholy situation is mentioned, and an earnest solicitude for the proper behaviour of the Prince, a change of administration seems to be expected’. Though many think that this is inadvisable and Napier is one. A new Ministry will be unwelcome and the King's illness has prevented him signing what would have been of great consequence to him and his family, as it would have enabled him to quit the military.

Dated at Edinburgh.
