<p style='text-align: justify;'>Heinrich Simon thanks Eduard Kaiser for his advice and reports that he has been moved up to Tertia. He describes the examination, which he found rather boring, and regrets that he was not called to answer any questions. His father Herrmann Simon is suffering from debilitating toothache. There are signs of economising, as Herrmann is using the lending library and has his office with one of the Lewald brothers. Uncle Lütke has recently bought a new house.</p>
