<p style='text-align: justify;'>Herrmann Simon is pleased to hear that Heinrich arrived safely in Brieg after the summer holidays. He asks him to write every Friday and to tell Headmaster Schmieder that he will be sending him wine. He hopes that he will receive good reports from Schmieder about Heinrich. Julie Simon adds a brief greeting. Minna Simon is sorry that Heinrich arrived in Brieg to an empty house, where he was looked after by the family servant until the Schmieders returned. She is concerned about how Heinrich passed his time alone and whether he spent his money on sweets. </p>
