<p style='text-align: justify;'>Volume 1 of the University of Manchester Rag Rag. Cover features a modified version of the Victoria University crest held by a clown riding a white spotted horse, set against an orange background. The magazine was printed by Richard Bates and distributed by W. H. Smith. It includes a special message by Bertram Iles of the Manchester Hippodrome. Proceeds from the magazine were donated to charitable causes in Manchester.</p><p style='text-align: justify;'>Features include the ‘official orders of the day’ for Shrove Tuesday, ‘The Extortioner’s Song’ describing fundraising activities and a stylised Hagedorn drawing. A comedy piece on ‘The Great Didsbury Drift’ describes Jewish Mancunians moving from Cheetham Hill to Didsbury.</p><p style='text-align: justify;'>This volume also contains comedic advertisements for John Heywood printers, S.B. Watts theatrical costumiers, Alec Watson sportswear, City Press printers, Warwick Brookes’ Studio, Philip Humfrey and Co clothing, Sherratt and Hughes books, Richard Bates printing, Reeves Caf, J. E. Cornish books, Fortuna Café and Waddington and Sons pianos.</p>
