<p style='text-align: justify;'>Volume 23 of the University of Manchester Rag Rag. Cover features a blue and white snake holding a screaming baby, together casting a shadow of a pound sign on a stylised theatre backdrop. A rattle nearby is inscribed with the date of issue. This edition contains letters of thanks from the mayor of Salford and the lord mayor of Manchester. Proceeds from the magazine were donated to various medical charities in Manchester.</p><p style='text-align: justify;'>Features include ‘The Rag-Rag Institute of Public Opinion’, satirising opinion polls, and ‘Incantation for Government Offices’, a joke poem about bureaucracy. There are references to the National Health Service, foreign holidays and shortages of cars.</p><p style='text-align: justify;'>This volume’s comedic advertisements include Lancashire United transport, P. McKiernan and Sons grocers, Ridings haulage, The Bidder steeplejacks, Brownall pipe fittings, Tizer, Percy Brothers press, Tom Mellor Jowett, Robinson’s bakery, Brailey electroplaters, the NSPCC, Estcourts tomato sauce, William Nash accountants and others.</p>
