<p style='text-align: justify;'>Herrmann Simon announces to his brother Heinrich his life-changing decision to close the previously lucrative wholesale and banking business that he had inherited from his father Hirsch. Following heavy losses sustained as a result of the Napoleonic wars and the occupation of Breslau, in recent years the situation deteriorated badly. Herrmann Simon is now facing ruinous losses for the financial year just ended. He is adamant that he will take any steps necessary to pay his debts and maintain his good name. He declares his willingness to take a subordinate position in order to support his family.</p>
