<p style='text-align: justify;'>Further work on Herrmann Simon’s accounts reveals the sum of monies owed after the dissolution of the business to be relatively small and can be covered by the support of Herrmann Simon’s former brother-in-law Lütke. Schlesinger, on the other hand, has been less supportive. Herrmann Simon envisages a career in the Prussian administration and asks his brother for support in securing a post.</p><p style='text-align: justify;'>Note(s):</p><p style='text-align: justify;'>The letter is dated 11 January 1816, but the contextual information indicates that it was written in 1817 rather than 1816.</p>
