Face covering for the mummified body of an elite woman. The design of this mask, with gilded details and the eyes inlaid with glass, indicate that it came from a group of near-identical masks found at the site of Meir in Middle Egypt. Other examples of this type have deep side projections to envelope the head and shoulders that often carry colourful scenes of Egyptian gods. This example has only been partially preserved and has been mounted on a modern wooden board.
