Golden Mummies : Stela

Golden Mummies

This limestone stela was set up at Abydos, the site most sacred to Osiris, the god of rebirth. It shows a man in Greek dress between two wrapped, divine forms; their jackal heads imply they represent the god Anubis. The mixture of Greek and Egyptian elements is typical of multicultural expectations of the afterlife in Graeco-Roman Egypt.
