Ottoman Book Culture

An early and extensively illustrated manuscript of the Armenian version of the Romance of Alexander. It was copied and illustrated with 121 miniatures by a well known scribe and artist, Zakʿariay, bishop of Gnuneacʿ, in Armenian Era 933 (1544 CE). This manuscript is central to the study of the Romance of Alexander due to the rich colophons which provide invaluable information about the wider literary and artistic context.
