    Gaster's note attached: "Against fever. made of earth taken from the precincts of the Holy Mosque at Mecca. dipped in blood of one of the sacrifices brought there".

    A dried mud with several coloured tapes on it, and some blood stains.

  • Extent: height: 45 mm, width: 30 mm.
  • Material(s): Dried mud; Leather; Blood
  • Format: Amulet
  • Condition:

    Four yellow tapes and a single teal tape was probably attached to it later, to prevent it from falling apart.

  • Shape: cone-shaped
  • Decoration:

    A cone-shaped dried mud with leather stripe attached to its top; several tapes attached to the side (probably added at a later stage).

  • Acquisition: Acquired by The John Rylands Library from the heirs of Moses Gaster in 1954.
