    Gaster's note: "The head-dress [were?] the ornaments for the evil eye and from Serayevo. Presented to me by Mr Papo, probably worn by him as a baby. M.G. 5 May [1]914".

    Compare the circular amulet to no. 606 in Catalogue of the Permanent and Loan Collections of the Jewish Museum London (London: Harvey Miller, 1974), p. 115 and Plate CLXIV.

    Circumference 44mm.

  • Extent: height: 13 mm, width: 13 mm.
  • Material(s): Textile; Metal
  • Format: Clothing
  • Condition:

    Fine, but there are few stains on the textile itself.

  • Script:

    Hebrew square script.

  • Decoration:

    A white textile headdress, with golden textile and sequins decorations. Light blue stripes support the external structure of it, and their extensions are used as straps. Two metal amulets are attached (by a thread) to the frontal part of the headdress. The circular amulet is embellished with 19 leaves around its circumference and contains the name שד"י on both sides. The mihrab-like amulet features floral decorations and contains the names [ח]י שדי ץםרד(!)ד in one side, and שדי לקי כוזו on the other side.
