Hebrew Manuscripts : Hasidic discourses

Rabbi Menachem Mendel Schneersohn

Hebrew Manuscripts

Collection of hasidic works. Most of the items in this manuscript are by Rabbi Menachem Mendel Schneersohn (1789 – 1866), author of Tsemaḥ Tsedeḳ. The first 52 items are from his work דרך מצותיך (Derekh Mitzvotecha), lit. ‘The way of Thy commandments’. The text in the manuscript is extremely close to that of the printed editions. In many but not all cases, the sequence of discourses, the notes, and special layout features, too, are extremely close to those of the printed editions. Most of the work has been checked and collated (מוגה). Besides the items by Rabbi Menachem Mendel, there are items by Rabbi Dov Baer, including his Tract on Ecstasy, on contemplative prayer, one of his Yiddish work on ethics, geared towards common folk, Darkey Teshuva, The Ways of Repentance, and other discourses. Finally, there are a letter and discourses by Rabbi Shneur Zalman, although the discourses contain editorial insertions by Rabbi Menahem Mendel.
