<p style='text-align: justify;'><p>Novellae on Talmud and Rabbinic Law.</p><p>This manuscript is from the collection Hayyim Jacob ben Samuel Rashal Velizh. Of the 18 Hasidic manuscripts in the Rylands’ Gaster Hebrew collection, at least eight – Gaster Hebrew MSS <a target='_blank' class='externalLink uom-purple' href='https://www.digitalcollections.manchester.ac.uk/view/MS-GASTER-HEBREW-01344'>1344</a>, 1346, <a target='_blank' class='externalLink uom-purple' href='https://www.digitalcollections.manchester.ac.uk/view/MS-GASTER-HEBREW-01347'>1347</a>, <a target='_blank' class='externalLink uom-purple' href='https://www.digitalcollections.manchester.ac.uk/view/MS-GASTER-HEBREW-01349'>1349</a>, <a target='_blank' class='externalLink uom-purple' href='https://www.digitalcollections.manchester.ac.uk/view/MS-GASTER-HEBREW-01350'>1350</a>, <a target='_blank' class='externalLink uom-purple' href='https://www.digitalcollections.manchester.ac.uk/view/MS-GASTER-HEBREW-01352'>1352</a>, <a target='_blank' class='externalLink uom-purple' href='https://www.digitalcollections.manchester.ac.uk/view/MS-GASTER-HEBREW-01354'>1354</a>, <a target='_blank' class='externalLink uom-purple' href='https://www.digitalcollections.manchester.ac.uk/view/MS-GASTER-HEBREW-01356'>1356</a> - are from Rashal’s collection. All of these contain HaBaD (Chabad) Hasidic discourses except Gaster Hebrew MS 1356. This volume of novella on Rabbinic law deepens our picture of Rashal, who, in addition to having been a HaBaD Hasid, was also an authority on Jewish law and a legal decisior, as well as a communal rabbi. </p></p>
