<p style='text-align: justify;'>A collection of documents and letters, mainly in Turkish and Arabic, collected together by the Dutch scholar Johannes Heyman (1667–1737). The dated items in the collection range from the late 16th to the early 18th century (20 Ramaḍān 997 AH (3 August 1589 CE) to 6 Jumādá II 1123 (22 July 1711 CE)), with the bulk dated to the 17th century. The Leiden University Library also holds another companion volume of Heyman's collection (<a target='_blank' class='externalLink uom-purple' href='https://catalogue.leidenuniv.nl/permalink/f/n95gpj/UBL_ALMA21322935700002711'>UBL Cod. Or. 1228</a>) that contains documents that relate to the contents of this volume.</p><p style='text-align: justify;'>Assembled as a scrapbook of disparate items, the contents encompass a wide variety of documents, including personal letters, Ottoman chancery documents, petitions regarding trade disputes, and even a recipe for cooking lentils. As well as Heyman's own papers, the volume also contains others acquired by him from the Dutch orientalists Thomas Erpenius (1584-1624) and Jacob Golius (1596-1667), as well as the early 18th-century Dutch soap merchant and resident of Acre, Paul Maashoek (d. 1711). </p>
