Syriac Manuscripts : Bar Hebraeus, Shorter Metrical Grammar

Syriac Manuscripts

The shorter metrical grammar of Bar Hebraeus, including the four numbered chapters followed by the alphabetical poem on holographs and alphabetical memra of palindromic lines laid out as the spokes of two wheels. Bar Hebraus designed this instructive poem to be learnt by heart. He used a poetic rhythm inspired by Ephrem the Syrian (d. 373), the greatest early Syriac writer. This manuscript was copied in Turkey and is dated 2157 (1845/6 CE).
