<p style='text-align: justify;'>This print appeared in an 1824 edition of the Bible, published by Cadell & Davies, which was a reissue of the 1800 illustrated Bible published by Thomas Macklin, 1752-1800. The 1824 edition used the original plates of the Macklin Bible, but the text was printed in a smaller typeface, which made this reissue a more modest production. It runs to three volumes rather than the six of the 1800 edition. This edition also includes "Historical Prefaces" on the books of the Bible by the Revd. Edward Nares, 1762-1841, and notes on the head and tailpieces written by John Landseer, 1769-1852. The 1824 edition, like Macklin's 1800 edition, included the Old and New Testaments. An edition of the Apocrypha was published in the same format by Cadell & Davies in 1816. The set in which the present plate appears includes the 1816 Apocrypha as Volume 4. The text of the 1824 edition was printed by Thomas Bensley, who had printed the 1800 edition and the 1816 Apocrypha. For the new edition, several new headpiece and tailpiece vignettes were designed, and others were adapted. </p><p style='text-align: justify;'> The headpiece to 2 Peter here, designed by Philippe-Jacques de Loutherbourg, 1740-1812 and engraved by Robert Shipster was the headpiece to 1 Peter in the 1800 edition. It replaces a tailpiece by the same designer and engraver that appeared as the headpiece to 2 Peter in the 1800 edition. The publication line is: "Publish'd by T. Macklin, Fleet Street. Republish'd 1 Sep 1823 by T. Cadell."</p>
