Early Photography

Manchester by F. Frith & Co., c1871. The company F. Frith & Co. was set up by the notable photographer, Francis Frith in 1859. Initially he took all the photographs himself, but as success came, he hired people to help him and set about establishing a firm that became one of the largest photographic studios in the world. As the album is dated c1871 it is likely that it represents the work of a number of photographers. The album is 30 prints of many of the Victorian built architectural jewels of Manchester, including, the Town Hall, the Manchester Assize Courts, the Royal Exchange and Owen's College.
