Manuscripts

This collection brings together manuscripts for use in teaching, especially the MA in Medieval and Early Modern Studies. They support the development of core skills necessary for scholars working with primary sources, with particular emphasis on:

• Codicology – the study of books (codices) as physical objects, including aspects such as binding, construction, composite manuscripts, and illumination
• Palaeography – the ability to identify a variety of different hands, to situate manuscripts in their chronological and creative contexts, and transcribe and decipher different scripts
